The degreaded Part of dong yai was handed to the forestry department and the main part was with the department of national parks. The forestry department subsequently leased the land to a paper and pulp company to plant Eucalyptus. About 4 years ago the contract with the paper company expired. Immediately there after people started to move in and plant cassava; no action by authorities. Then last year an application was made to give about 4551 rai to landless people (no approval yet).
The actual area encroached is in the tens of thousands of rai not 4551 rai. Why is the forestry department not taking action? Until the application is approved (or rejected) the people should not be allowed to plant anything there.
